The Challenge Course
The Camp's low and high ropes courses, including an impressive climbing tower, offer both group and individual challenges. The ropes courses build self-confidence and are used to enhance teamwork and cooperation, important ingredients for group problem-solving.
Challenge Course
The William Lawrence Camp Challenge Course is broken down into three areas. The first is the low ropes area, in which the campers participate in group initiative games that help build teamwork and trust. The next stop is the high ropes area. This section consists of obstacle courses suspended 40 feet up in the air. The focus in the high ropes is on building the camper's confidence and willingness. Campers will be taught knot tying and how to properly belay as part of the experience. On the climbing tower, campers have 3 different sides to choose from. Both the high ropes and the climbing tower use a harness and belay system to keep the campers safe and to help them climb. As the saying goes at the challenge course, "can't" is spelled "t-r-y." |
Climbing Wall
Climbing one of the three faces of our 40+ foot tower offers campers technical climbing experience and the thrill and satisfaction of accomplishing a challenging undertaking. Teamwork required between climber and belayer builds a sense of trust among Campers.
High Ropes Course
WLC is one of the only summer camps for boys with such an elaborate high ropes course. Some of the high rope elements include a Jacobs Ladder, several traverses of varying difficulty, and a camper favorite known as the Shiver Pole.
Low Ropes Course
Besides the hugely popular climbing wall and high ropes course, boys are required to first build trust on safer ground. Camp Counselors challenge the boys to solve many problems as a team, requiring them to communicate and collaborate in healthy ways.
