Summer Camp Target Sports
William Lawrence Camp offers an impressive range of target sports instruction for our campers. Riflery at William Lawrence is steeped in tradition, and our covered range always attracts attention. Archery is a hugely popular all-weather activity, offering the opportunity for games and relaxation, especially on a hot afternoon, as well as guidance and support for those who want to work seriously at climbing the National Field Archery Association award ladder. Recently, we added clay sports to our line-up of target sports. Only available to our senior campers, this activity has been a huge success.
Clay Sports
Clay sports, known to many as trap or skeet shooting, is part of William Lawrence's extensive outdoorsman skills program. Using 20 gauge shotguns, and biodegradable clay pigeons, our program emphasizes marksmanship, hand-eye coordination, gun safety, and shotgun education. This program is designed for our senior campers and has been widely popular. Whether you're an old pro, or a first time participant, this program always draws a crowd. |
Riflery
Gun safety and marksmanship are the emphasis of our rifle program here at William Lawrence. Our campers target practice with competition .22 caliber rifles. All of our counselors are CMP or Civilian Marksmanship Program certified. Campers are first oriented in the rigid safety procedures of the range, and then are carefully instructed on how to improve their target shooting skills. The rifle program is one that is steeped in tradition as one of our biggest camp events each session is the rifle match with our sister camp Fleur de Lis. Here at William Lawrence, riflery allows us to play against our toughest opponent... ourselves. |
Archery
The art of the bow and arrow is far from dead, in fact, here at William Lawrence summer camp archery is thriving. Our new archery facilities allow us to practice our marksmanship in any type of weather. Starting with the basics campers will first learn how to operate a recurve bow and then work toward their qualifications. Campers are also invited to bring their own recurve or compound bows from home to use at the range. Inter-camp archery matches with our neighbors are not uncommon here at William Lawrence. So whether you just want to learn how to shoot, or reach that next qualification, the archery range is open! |
