WLC COVID-19 Update 5

Dear WLC Family,

Here is the latest on what we're working on...

  • We are continuing to think about our options for summer 2020!  In addition to the 4-week option we presented a couple of weeks ago, another option we are thinking is that maybe we could welcome those campers, AND their families, who are working on Woodsman tests to come spend a week at camp. While family members enjoy a camping-like experience, campers would take and pass tests to get closer to becoming a Woodsman. In addition to weekly virtual sessions, our Leaders in Training (LITs) would be onsite for two weeks for Lifeguard and Leadership Training. Governor Sununu's comments regarding resident camps being problematic, although not a final decision on their opening, have given us pause. In the meantime we have received guidelines from the American Camp Association and the CDC. Let's just say they are more onerous and will have a greater effect on the program than we had even dreamed. The health and safety of our campers and staff on site this summer is of paramount importance to us.
  • We still have a Final Payment Due Date of June 15th in the chance that we are able to operate a summer camp schedule. In the event that we have to delay summer camp to 2021, those families that have paid will have the option to receive a full refund, including their deposit, roll their deposit to summer 2021 or donate their deposit to WLC operating costs. Click here for our updated COVID-19 cancellation policy.
  • Thank you to those that joined us for our Re-ZOOM-ions! We are planning future Re-ZOOM-ions and hope that everyone will join again and invite friends that may have missed the call. These are a great opportunity to share memories, pictures and time with your WLC family.
  • We have cancelled our work weekends but we hope that you and a friend will be able to come up for a day to work at camp. Please let us know if and when you'd like to come help out. Weekdays work better for us but are happy to set you up for a weekend.

There are a few things we would love for you to be doing while stuck at home...

  • Stay safe, healthy and optimistic!
  • Remember that a community is a community whether in-person or virtual. You're part of our family and we want to connect with you in any way you feel comfortable!
  • Help us ensure our contact information for you is accurate! Our new interns, Nick White and Ryan Alt, will be reaching out to ensure that we have the most updated information in our database for you - please respond to them.

WLC COVID-19 Update 4

Dear WLC Family,

Here is the latest on what we are doing during this very uncertain time...

  • We continue our planning to open camp for summer 2020! Still unsure if we will be able to open, we are planning different scenarios for the summer. To ensure the safety of our campers, families and staff members, we are thinking that we would welcome campers mid-July and we would only hold one 4-week session to allow us to create a sort of "bubble" around camp.
  • We are moving the Final Payment Due Date to June 15th. This will allow us the maximize our decision-making time. Click here for our updated COVID-19 cancellation policy.
  • We have organized Zoom chats for our Alumni based on different decades. If you were a camper or staff in multiple decades we'd love to see you on all those calls! Please add the schedule below to your calendar. Zoom links can also be found on our website under Re-ZOOM-ions (thanks Andre Amazeen for that awesome term!)

    • 90s Re-ZOOM-ion hosted by Nat Crane and Jordan Braxton-Leonard on Sunday, May 17th at 3pm EST. Click here to join!
    • 2000s Re-ZOOM-ion hosted by Drew Duncan and Tom Oxtoby on Sunday, May 17th at 4:30pm EST. Click here to join!
    • 2010s Re-ZOOM-ion hosted by Alex Camerino and Thomas Cleary THIS SUNDAY, May 10th at 3pm EST. Click here to join!
    • Nat will be joining all the calls to say hi and provide updates.
  • We are cancelling our work weekends but hope that you and a friend will be able to come up for a day to work at camp. Please let us know if and when you'd like to come help out. Weekdays work better for us.
    • HUGE shout out to John Webster, Chris Hyde and Geoffrey Erickson for spending the day getting the Knoll cleaned up!
  • We are finding resources to share with our families, such as this document from the Association of Camp Nursing Healthy Camp Starts at Home.
  • Though meager, we have received disaster relief funds from the Small Business Administration! These funds will allow us to pay operating costs into early June. We are counting on donations and loans to help us through these financially challenging times.

There are a few things we would love for you to be doing while stuck at home...

  • Stay safe, healthy and optimistic!
  • If you know any young men whose plans have changed for the summer (maybe their internship was cancelled) please send them our way! If we open camp, we are going to need staff.
  • If you don't have social media, see our updates on our website under WLC at Home (https://www.wlcamp.org/wlc-at-home.html) and in the announcements on the Homepage.

WLC COVID-19 Update 2

Dear WLC Family,

  • In a Zoom meeting with our 2020 Nurse, Amy, and our Nurse Consultant, Diane, we started working on updated procedures for the 2020 summer.
  • Based on information discussed in virtual meetings with the NH Camp Directors Association, our extremely knowledgeable Board of Trustees and other camp organizations, we are in the process of creating a financial policy for families that will keep families and camp financially viable if camp were to be cancelled or delayed.
  • We met via Zoom with some of our vendors, with whom we have made financial commitments, to discuss relief in the event of a compromised season.
  • We submitted applications for small business loans to help us continue to pay for operational costs during the lead-up to camp.
  • We are paying close attention to the CDC recommendations and therefore will be limiting the number of participants for our May 9th work weekend. If you are interested in helping clean-up camp on May 9th please email or call camp ASAP to reserve your spot.
    • As recommendations change and we get closer to the start of camp, we will be hosting other work days at camp and will notify everyone via email and Facebook.
  • We are creating virtual camp trivia sessions via Kahoot (it's OK if you don't know what that is, we will send out more details next week).
There are a few things we would love for you to be doing while stuck at home...
